PURPOSE: To provide a photoreceptor in which silica particles are used and to provide a photoreceptor which hardly causes adsorption of water molecules, namely, gives excellent images even in high humidity environment and has excellent electric characteristics for repeated use by incorporating specified silica particles into the outermost layer. CONSTITUTION: The outermost layer of an electrophotographic photoreceptor contains silica particles having the following properties. By the differential scanning calorimetry for the particles in an environment of 80% relative humidity, the endothermic energy changeΔH in the region between >=40 deg.C and <=200 deg.C is 0-20J/g. The volume average particle size of the particles is between >=0.05μm and <=2μm. The silica particles are synthesized by chemical flame CVD method and treated with a silica coupling agent expressed by formula. In formula, R1 is a halogen atom, alkyl group, alkenyl group or the like and it may have substituents, and R2 -R4 are halogen atoms, alkyl groups or alkoxy groups.
