PURPOSE: To attain sure bit multiplex processing without use of a large capacity phase fluctuation absorption memory. CONSTITUTION: A timing signal generating section 400 of a bit multiplexer/ demultiplexer 300 generates a synchronization clock CK 43, which is superimposed onto reception optical transmission signals D30, D40 and the result is transferred respectively to frame multiplexers/demultiplexers 100, 200. Each of the frame multiplexers/demultiplexers 100, 200 extracts the synchronization clock CK 43 from reception optical transmission signals D30, D40. Synchronization processing and frame multiplex processing of STM-1 signals CH1-CH16 are conducted by using the synchronization clock CK 43 to send transmission optical signals L10, L20 to the bit multiplexer/demultiplexer 300. |
