Hexahydropyrazinoquinoline derivatives having general formula (I), exhibiting excellent 5-HT1A receptor agonist effects and thus being useful as a preventive or remedy for anxiety, depression or symptoms in association with senile dementia, wherein R<1> represents -CO-R<3>; R<2> represents hydrogen; R<3> represents alkyl, cycloalkyl, optionally substituted aryl, optionally substituted aralkyl, cycloalkylamino, optionally substituted arylamino or an optionally substituted heterocycle; or R<1> and R<2> form together with the nitrogen atom, to which they are bonded, optionally substituted 2,4-dioxothiazolidin-3-yl or phthalimidyl; X represents -CH2- or -O-; and m represents an integer of 2 to 6.
