The present invention provides a method of manufacturing article having a substructure (12) with a wall (16,17) having a wall surface and a foam layer (18) along the wall surface, comprising the steps of: placing the substructure (12) in a tool (20) having a die surface being spaced apart from the wall surface; injecting a foamable material (18) between the die surface and the wall; applying a clamp load (20) between the die surface and the foamable material; allowing the foamable material (18) to expand and exert a force on the wall; and reducing the clamp load (26) on the foamable material (18) to reduce the force exerted on the wall by the expanding material whereby the force exerted on the wall does not deform the article.
