PURPOSE: To measure a molten metal surface position in a high accuracy by arranging a picture receiving set and a scum removal means in the visual field. CONSTITUTION: In a molten metal surface position measuring instrument in a twin roll type continuous casting, the picture receiving set and the scum removal means in this visual field of the picture receiving set are arranged. At the time of removing the scum with the scum removal means, the picture 9 corresponding to the floated scum is eliminated and the picture of boundaries 8, 8' between the molten metal 1 and the roll 2 is formed as linear shape. The scum removal means is a purge gas blowing device, by which the floated scum on the molten metal surface is flowed out or scum flow-in is prevented. Further, the scum removal means is an interrupting plate arranged so as to dip the lower end into the molten metal. By this method, the boundary between the molten metal and the roll can be detected as the linear shaped picture clearly demarcating the light color part and the dark color part. |
