PURPOSE: To remove the phosphorus of the river without need to fabricate an equipment or a large amt. of dephosphorizing material by dispersing a phosphorus-adsorptive fine grain consisting of iron hydroxide or aluminum hydroxide and having a specified diameter in the river and settling the grain in a stagnation part. CONSTITUTION: A fine-grain phosphorus removing material consisting of iron hydroxide or aluminum hydroxide, having 100μm diameter and capable of adsorbing phosphorus is thrown into the water at a point A of the river 1 on the upstream side of a dam lake 2. The fine grain is agitated and transported in the rapid stream of the river 1 and sent to the dam lake 2, and the fine grain is settled in the slow stream. The phosphorus removing material is not settled in a short time, entrained by the stream of the river 1, suspended, allowed to flow to the downstream side while adsorbing phosphorus, then gradually settled on the riverbed and separated. A part of the fine grains, which have not been settled on the riverbed of the river 1, are surely settled on the bottom of the dam lake 2, where the water flows at a remarkably slow speed, and separated.
