HEAT TREATMENT OF HIGH-MOLECULAR LIQUID CRYSTAL COMPOSITION

PURPOSE: To provide a heat treatment method for producing a high-molecular liquid crystal composition having excellent optical properties by controlling its multidomain structure. CONSTITUTION: The multidomain structure of a high-molecular liquid crystal composition is controlled by its heat treatment at a temperature below Ti deg.C (the isotropic phase-liquid crystal phase transition temperature of the composition) but at or higher than (Ti-20) deg.C or by such heat treatment as to conduct a continuous temperature falling from a level higher than Ti deg.C to Ti deg.C at a rate of <=20 deg.C/s, or by a combination of the above two kinds of heat treatments.
