Thermostabile Polarisatoren

A thermally stable, flexible polariser with a polarising layer consisting of a polymer with conjugated double bonds (I) has its surface sealed with SiOx; x = 1-2, pref. 1.1-1.9, or pref. 1.4-1.8. PREFERRED ALERT - Silane has the formula Si(R1)n(R2)4-n R1 = halogen or alkoxy; R2 = alkyl or alkenyl; n = 2, 3 or 4. Polymer (I) is a partly dehydrated polyvinyl alcohol (PVAL) or a polyacetylene (PAC)-contg. PVAL pref. a PAC-contg. PVAL, esp. a PAC-contg. PVAL in which the PVAL is partly dehydrated before or after the acetylene polymerisation, by heating at 150-250 degrees C and/or by acid treatment. The polariser may also contain dichroic substances.
