The device contains a behaviour parameter detector (10), which measures a parameter characteristic of behaviour related to yaw and/or lateral movement of the vehicle, a speed detector (12), a reference behaviour parameter setting device (16) responsive to changes in the behaviour parameter, a lateral deviation computer (19), a driving state determination device (22) and an abnormality determination device. The lateral deviation device computes a degree of lateral deviation from the behaviour parameter, the reference behaviour parameter and the speed. The degree of lateral deviation is used to determine whether the driver is driving normally or not. The abnormality determination device responds the result to detect driving abnormality.
