A method for metallising the surface of a sintered aluminium nitride part with a thick metal layer strongly adhered to said surface. The method comprises a first step of exposing the surface to be metallised to an excimer laser beam in the ultraviolet wavelength, a second step of immersing the exposed part in an autocatalytic bath which contains metal ions and induces the formation of a metal layer consisting of said ions on portions of the previously exposed surface, and a final step of heat treating the resulting metallised part at a moderate temperature and over a short heating cycle to cause diffusion of some of the atoms in the metal layer through the heat-treated part. A metallised article produced according to the method is also disclosed. |
