Wide door construction, esp. for aircraft hangar

The door construction has a girder (16) defining the top edge of a door opening. The ends of the girder are supported by posts (12), whilst the intermediate areas are supported by vertical column units (22). The vertical column units have a running carriage (24) and are lockable, via a piston arrangement (44), with the underside of the girder and the upper side of a threshold element (26). Both the top of the column unit and the girder have guides (40,42) which engage for vertical relative movement between them.
