Mechanical purification device for liq., esp. cooling water for a heat exchanger. The liq. flow into a pipework (10) having a rotation symmetric conical filter body (12) essentially the same size as the pipe dia. There is also a suction device (20) on the same axis and on the impinged side of the filter body (12), which can rotate and with the help of a drive (26,28,30) swivel continually or with pauses during a cleaning interval. The device (20) has an inlet nozzle (22), and sucks repeatedly over the entire filter body surface during the cleaning interval. The filter body is divided into regions (37,38,39) and the nozzles (e.g. 22) can cover each region. In each area of the actual filter surface and the suction device there is a hollow space for temporary storage of contaminants (52). On the impinged side the filter body (12) is subdivided into sectors forming the regions by elements (e.g. 36) forming the hollow spaces. The inlet nozzle (22) is shaped such that when it exactly cover a region (e.g. 38), the neighbouring regions (e.g. 37,39) is free, and the gap (a) between the free element edges (50) and the nozzle edge is bridged by flexible sealing lips (e.g. 44) of at least the height of the gap. The cone point (61) has no pins (36), so that chutes (63) appear, and the fitting (24) near the cone point (61) has an opening (62).
