The method sterilizes the nursing bottle within the microwave oven by using the operation charateristics of a gas sensor. The method comprises: a 1st step of determining if there exists water in the nursing bottle by variations of the signals detected from the gas sensor while heating the water within the nursing bottle by generating a high frequency; a 2nd step of stopping heating of the nursing bottle if there exists no water in the nursing bottle; a 3rd step of determining if the temperature of the water within the bottle is higher than a set temperature when there exists water in the nursing bottle; a 4th step of determining if a set heating time has passed when the temperature of the water within the bottle is not higher than a set temperature, continuing to heat if the set heating time has not passed and otherwise, stopping heating; a 5th step of continuing to heat the nursing bottle for a set time if the temperature of the water within the bottle is higher than a set temperature.
