PURPOSE: To produce a polyarylene sulfide having high heat resistance and mechanical strengths and excellent in adherence to an epoxy resin, etc. CONSTITUTION: A process for producing a polyarylene sulfide by reacting an alkali metal sulfide with a dihalo aromatic compound in an organic amide solvent, wherein a polyarylene sulfide is obtained by mixing and heating a functional halogen-substituted aromatic compound in an amount of 0.1-3.0mol% based on an alkali metal sulfide with the alkali metal sulfide beforehand and then adding a dihalo aromatic compound to the mixture to effect reaction and the polyarylene sulfide is rinsed in water and treated with an acid. |
