PURPOSE: To discriminate the authentication of a medium by setting up an authentication discriminating reference based upon objective evaluation. CONSTITUTION: A discrimination reference data storage part 1 is provided with density threshold data 1a, section score data 1b, score threshold data 1c, and comparing order data 1d. A density section judging part 2 compares the density of respective picture elements in the picture data of a medium with the data 1a based upon the data 1d and classifys the density areas into plural sections divided by the threshold. A score adding part 3 calculates the score of a section classified by the judging part 2 at every picture element and finds out the total score of all picture elements. An authenticity discriminating part 4 compares the score threshold of the data 1d with the total score found out by the adding part 3, and when the total score is more than the threshold, the part 4 judges the medium as a true bill. When the total score is less than the threshold, the medium is judged as a false bill. |
