TRITERPENE ACID DERIVATIVE

PURPOSE: To obtain a new compound having antiandrogen action, especially action inhibiting bonding of 5α-dihydrotestosteron to androgen receptor and useful for treating and preventing androgen-dependent diseases such as android alopecia and prostatomegaly. CONSTITUTION: This derivative is a compound of the formula (X is O or a single bond; R is H or hydroxy), e.g. a compound of the formula (X is a single bond) having the following properties. Appearance: colorless powder; melting point: 162-164 deg.C; molecular weight: C42 H64 O13 . The compound is obtained by extracting leaf or whole grass of Kadzura Japonica or a plant belonging to the same genus with a hydrophilic solvent such as methanol or acetone and subjecting the extracted material to column chromatography or fractional high- performance liquid chromatography using a porous polymer or sephadex as a carrier to fractionate and purify the extracted material.
