The cylinder head has a coolant chamber (18) which is split into upper (18') and lower (18") spaces by a separator (29) and can be connected by a throttle opening (33). Air can be bled from the coolant depending on a sloping installation of the cylinder head with respect to the horizontal (37). The bleeding occurs through one or more channels (38,39) which are arranged at least partly in the head, and are roughly parallel to its central longitudinal plane (28). The throttle opening may be arranged between a covering lid of a support (32) for the cooling core and an adjacent section of the separator.
