The invention concerns one or more storage devices (90) in which a number of vertically stacked carrier discs (22) can rotate individually about a central column (26). Each carrier disc (22) is provided with a number of storage zones for data carriers and an opening (28). The openings together form an open uninterrupted shaft (30) when the individual carrier discs (22) are in the waiting position; through the shaft, the individual data carriers are freely accessible and can be conveyed by a common capture and transfer device (92) to a write/read unit (106).
