Level crossing for connecting two sections of road over railway

The plate elements (3) in the first position lying horizontally, are connected to be practically aligned level with the road sections. In the second vertical position of the plate elements, the rail level crossing is blocked for road traffic and pedestrians. At least one controllable drive unit (5) is provided for operating the plate elements and optical signals and/or acoustic signals are provided in the plate elements. The plate elements are supported in the horizontal position by a support unit (4), arranged between the rails.
