ANTI-CROSS CONTAMINATION VALVE AND FLUID DELIVERY SYSTEMS USING SAME

An anti-cross contamination valve (30) for use in medical fluide delivery systems comprises a valve housing (42) having a first port (34), a second port (35), and a third port (36) that open into a hollow interior (41). A valve body (31) is rotatably mounted within the hollow interior (41) and has at least one fluid passageway therethrough. A knob (32) is attached to the valve body (31) and extends outside of the valve housing (42). At at least one fluid passageway opens the first port (34) to the third port (36) when the valve body (31) is rotated to a first position, and the second port (35) opens to the third port (36) when the valve body (31) is rotated to a second position. In order to prevent the possibility of cross contamination, the valve includes stop barriers (38) and/or a special passageway/port geometry that prevents the possibility of the first port (34) coming into fluid communication with the second port (35), or vice versa.
