摘要 PURPOSE:To obtain 2,6-dichlorotoluene useful as a synthetic intermediate for agricultural chemicals, pharmaceuticals, etc., in high purity, by using a specific ZSM-type zeolite usable over a long period as an adsorbent in the adsorptive separation of a mixture of dichlorotoluene isomers with a zeolite adsorbent. CONSTITUTION:A zeolite selected from ZSM-8, -11, -21, or -35-type zeolite and zeta-1 or -3-type zeolite is used as an adsorbent for the separation of a mixture of dichlorotoluene isomers. The mixture is brought into contact with the catalyst in an adsorption chamber (furnished with one or more adsorption chambers filled with the adsorbent) at room temperature - 300 deg.C. The objective compound is left as an unabsorbed component and the other components are highly adsorbed and separated. The cationic component of the zeolite of the present process is especially preferably proton. The ion exchange of the cation is preferably carried out by contacting the zeolite with an ion exchange treatment liquid consisting of an aqueous solution of a nitrate of a cation to be exchanged with the cation of the zeolite.
