ALPHA-SULFOFATTY ACID DERIVATIVE

PURPOSE: To obtain anα-sulfofatty acid derivative excellent in water-soluble property, hydrolytic resistance and mild property to skin and hair and excellent in performances as a surfactant. CONSTITUTION: This derivative is expressed by formula I [Z<1> -(OH)c-w-1 is a (poly)glycerin residue; (R<1> O)-(R<3> O)1 are each a linear fatty acid group binding to a (poly)glycerin residue; Z<2> -(OH)f-l-s is a sugar residue; OCOCH(SO3 M)R<2> is anα-sulfofatty acid residue], e.g. decylglycerylglucoside(α-sulfopalmitic aicd) ester. The derivative expressed by formula I is obtained by previoulsy mixing and dissolving a (poly)glycerin glycoside expressed by formula II with anα- sulfofatty acid ester expressed by formula III at 40-60 deg.C and then subjecting these substances to transesterification reaction using a catalyst such as para- toluenesulfonic acid at 95-110 deg.C under reduced pressure. A composition containing 0.5-40wt.% of the derivative expressed by formula I is useful as a cleaning agent having extremely low irritancy.
