PURPOSE: To highly balance the on-ice performance of a penumatic tire with its abrasion resistance. CONSTITUTION: The cap tread section of a pneumatic tire is formed from a rubber compsn. which contains 100 pts.wt. diene rubber having a glass transition point (Tg) of -45 deg.C or lower and 1-50 pts.wt. water-absorbing polymer (e.g. a polyacrylic acid salt) having an average particle size of 1-500μm, a water-sol. content of 10wt.% or lower, and a water absorption capacity of at least 30 times the wt.
