PURPOSE: To obtain a triazine derivative free from phytotoxicity to cotton and safety to environment, capable of selectively controlling a wide range of weeds in a field, including Indian mallow, a weed of the family Malvaceae, with a small amount of a herbicide. CONSTITUTION: The subject derivative of formula I (X is methyl, etc.; n is 0 or an integer of 1-4; Y is methyl-substituted propylene; R isα-hydroxyethyl) such as 2-amino-4-(α-fluoroethyl)-6-(1'-tetralinylamino)-S-triazine. A cycloalkylamine derivative of formula II is reacted with an equimolar amount of cyanoguanine of formula III preferably at 120-150 deg.C for 4-7 hours. The resulting substance is reacted with 1-2 equivalent of an ester of the formula RCOOR<1> based on 1mol of the compound of formula II in the presence of a solvent such as methanol preferably at 0-65 deg.C for 10-15 hours to give a derivative of formula I. A composition obtained by blending the derivative with 10-55wt.% of a solid carrier is useful as a herbicide.
