<p>PURPOSE: To obtain a solid culture medium, using a nonionic water absorbing resin as a gelling agent, excellent in chemical stability without being influenced by an electrolyte and inhibiting the growth and differentiation of various microorganisms, cells, etc., and capable of providing a suitable culture environment. CONSTITUTION: A nonionic water absorbing resin which is a cross-linked polymer or copolymer, etc., of a compound, represented by the formula (R<1> and R<2> are each H or methyl) (e.g. N-vinylacetamide) and having >=10 timed water absorption ratio of an aqueous solution at a pH within the range of 2-11 in amount of 0.1-4% (wt./vol.) based on a solid culture medium is contained therein to absorb an aqueous solution of a nutrient culture medium. Thereby, the resultant objective solid culture medium is excellent in chemical stability without being influenced by an electrolyte such as inorganic salts and causing inhibition of the growth and differentiation to various plant tissues, microorganisms, animal cells, etc., and capable of manifesting constant water holding effects and providing a suitable culture environment and suitable for culturing thermophilic, acidophilic, alkalophilic or halophilic microorganisms.</p> |
