PURPOSE: To provide a glass mat with satisfactory surface sliding property and excellent battery assembling property at low cost by manufacturing a wet glass mat formed of a base layer consisting of a thick diameter glass fiber and a surface layer consisting of a thin diameter glass fiber by the paper making of the glass fibers. CONSTITUTION: A paper-made sheet 11 consisting of a thick diameter glass fiber (average fiber if about 16-23μm, average fiber length of about 13-50mm) is made by a paper machine 1, a paper-made sheet 12 consisting of a thin diameter glass fiber (average fiber of about 8-14μm, average fiber length of about 6-25mm) is made by a paper machine 2, and the both are paper-made together to form a laminated sheet 13. A binder resin is applied to the laminated sheet 13 by a spraying device 3, and the resulting sheet is dried by a hot air drying furnace 4 and cut by a cutter 5 to form a glass mat 10. Thus, the wet glass mat 10 formed of a base layer 10B consisting of a thick diameter glass fiber W and a surface layer 10A consisting of a thin diameter glass fiber S can be provided and effectively used for the improvement in battery performance.
