Prepn. of dry, redispersible micro-denominated cellulose(MDC) comprising MDC comprises repeatedly passing a liq. suspension of cellulose through a zone of higher shear having two confronting surfaces one rotating relative to the other, until the cellulose suspension is stable and has a Canadian Standard Freeness (CSF) that consistently increases with repeated passage through the high shear zone, the MDC having a settled vol. of greater than 50% as detd. on the basis 1 wt.% suspension in water after 24 hrs. and drying the suspension of MDC in the presence of a dispersion agent to impart a viscosity when dispersed in water at least 50% of the equiv. concn. of non-dried MDC dispersed in water.
