PURPOSE: To reduce the number of kinds of press dies for plate forming as much as possible by stacking plates of the same shape in such a manner that they are shifted one by one with respect to each other by a specified angle so as to constitute a heat exchanging portion. CONSTITUTION: A heat exchanger is constituted by stacking plates 10 having first fluid holes 15a-15c, second fluid holes 16a-16c and a fin containing recess in such a manner that they are shifted one by one by 90 deg. with respect to each other. The first fluid holes 15a-15c and the second fluid holes 16a-16c communicate with each other to form fluid passages. Engine cooling water and engine oil are allowed to flow through the different passages into the fin containing recess to effect heat exchange. The plates used are of a same kind so that press working cost for forming the plates are controlled as low as possible. Because the plates are shifted by a specified angle in forming the accumulated layers thereof, the heat exchanger can endure load induced by bolts securing an oil cooler to a car body so that a light-weighted oil cooler made of aluminum can be realized.
