Process for producing and treating an array of sample-contg. assay blocks, comprises placing a plate with an array of apertures in a dish whose base seals the apertures, filling the apertures with a gellable sample-contg. liq., allowing the liq. to gel to form the assay blocks, moving the plate from the base of the dish so that the bottoms of the assay blocks are exposed while the plate remains in the dish, and filling the dish successively with at least one treatment liq., alternating with wash liquids, so that both sides of the assay blocks are contacted with the treatment and wash liquids. Also claimed is appts. for converting a biological sample into a form suitable for analysis, comprising means for forming a plate with gel-filled apertures as above, and a dish designed so that the plate can lie on the base of the dish in a first position and can be held above the base but below the upper rim of the dish in a second position. |
