The invention relates to a method of controlling fuel supply means of an internal combustion engine, which is implemented when starting up the engine, this method comprising steps consisting in measuring at least one characteristic value (11) of an engine speed that is representative of the richness of a fuel/oxidant mixture for supplying the engine, comparing said measured characteristic value (11) with a reference value (21) so as to determine a difference value (22) between these two values, and controlling said supply means (5) by means of a control signal (31) which is issued by a control unit (3) and is dependent on said difference value. According to the invention, said method additionally comprises an updating step which consists in producing an updated reference value (21) when an engine ageing threshold is exceeded. |
