Determn. of the dibutyl phthalate (DBP) absorption no. of pptd. SiO2 (I) comprises: (a) mixing x pts. (I) of unknown DBP no. with y pts. C black of known DBP no.; (b) kneading the mixt. with dosed addn. of DBP and simultaneous monitoring of the increasing mixing viscosity from the moment of rotation of the kneader; (c) determining the vol. of DBP needed to reach a predetermined moment of rotation according to ASTM D-2414; and (d) calculating the DBP no. of (I) from the formula (X).
