[Also in Division C7] A manifold assembly for directing the flow of machining fluid to a machining gap 29 between a tool 22 and a workpiece 20 in an electrical discharge machine having a fluid inlet 41 and a fluid outlet 27, the latter communicating with the gap, comprises a telescoping shroud 48 surrounding the tool, with its upper member 50 mounted, e.g. by bolts 49 to portion 30, around the tool to define a space 53 therebetween communicating with the inlet, e.g. via conduit 47, and its lower member 52 telescopingly received in the space and extending around the tool normally forward of the tool tip 28 but sealed, e.g. by 0-ring seal 63, against the workpiece during machining to close a path for fluid circulation as shown; the lower member has a longitudinal passage 51 therethrough to communicate with the space 53. The forward extension of the lower member may be limited by a step 57. Sealing may be rendered effective by a forwardly biased force produced by fluid pressure against an upper end area 55 of the lower member. At least one intermediate shroud member may be telescopingly received between the upper and lower members (Fig. 5). The invention may be adapted for using a trepanning tool (Fig. 6) by including an internal upper shroud member.
