FIELD: tailoring industry. SUBSTANCE: expert system including built-in domain-specific knowledge is used with controlled pattern cutting system for automatic determination of optimal feed speed in the process of pattern cutting on the basis of some possible varying cutting parameters of the system in which programmed controller establishes and sets preliminarily introduced configuration file. The latter contains the data on definite parameter of control of pattern cutting system to guide the operation of the pattern cutting system in compliance with the contour describing the trajectory of the cutter transferred by the pattern cutting system. The cutter is moved in the space of coordinates X, Y and C over the cut surface. Motors of axles X, Y and C are driven by current to move the cutter at a speed preset by the configuration file. Cutting force developed by the cutter is determined on the preliminarily determined sections of contour to determine the resistance of cut material and actual cutting force is compared with optimal cutting force. Feed rate is corrected by its increasing when actual value of force is smaller than the expected force, and it is corrected by decreasing when actual force exceeds the expected force, and the patter cutting system is disengaged for reconstruction of contours if actual force exceeds the expected force for the preset definite value. Feed rate is calculated for the contour with due consideration of resistance of material to be cut, data on cutter sharpness, cutting height, current in cutter motor and cutter speed.
