PURPOSE: To provide a magnetic recording material having high resolving power, forming a sharp image excellent in stability and enabling reversible display. CONSTITUTION: A magnetic recording material 1 is obtained by providing a magnetic recording layer 12 containing microcapsules 15 including a flaky magnetic powder 22 and a dispersing medium showing a solid phase state at room temp. on a support 11. Image data is displayed by the contrast of reflected lights obtained by the orientation of the flaky magnetic powder 22 due to heating and the application of magnetism in the direction parallel or vertical to the magnetic recording layer 12 and erased by setting the orientation of the flaky magnetic powder 22 to the parallel or vertical direction.
