PURPOSE: To obtain a catalyst system which can give anα-olefin polymer having a broad molecular weight distribution and high stereoregularity by combining a Ti-containing solid catalyst component treated with a specified organic transition metal compound with an organoaluminum compound and an electron- donating compound. CONSTITUTION: The catalyst system comprises a solid catalyst component prepared by treating a solid catalyst component containing a titanium (III) compound with a cyclopentadienyl-containing organic transition metal compound represented by the formlula (Cp is cyclopentadienyl; M is a group IV transition metal; X is a halogen; R is alkyl, aryl or alkyl or aryl containing O, N, S or P; and m, n and p are numbers in the ranges: 1<=m<=3, 0<=n<=3, 0<=p<=3, and m+n+p=4), an organoaluminum compound and an electron-donating compound (e.g. an ester or ether of an inorganic acid).
