PURPOSE: To avoid the unnecessary switching control of the roll rigidity of a vehicle during the return steering operation of a steering wheel by prohibiting the switching of the roll rigidity until the steering wheel is steered over the prescribed steering angle when the turning operation of the steering wheel is in the returning direction. CONSTITUTION: The timeΔt required to change the steering angleθby the fine steering angleΔθis set to be large in the beginning, a microcomputer resets a built-in mobile timer to realize the circulation processing, the absolute value of the steering angleθand the time variable T from a steering angle sensor are set for each circulation processing, the mean value of the second and fourth time variables T2 , T4 is calculated to be set asΔT(S102-124). When this timeΔT is small, the damping force of a shock absorber is switched to the hard side to be controlled. During the measurement of the time valueΔT, the steering of the returning direction of the steering wheel is judged, and the switching and control of the damping force is prohibited (S126) until the steering wheel is returned by the prescribed steering angle 2Δθ.
