PURPOSE: To promote mixing of fuel colliding with a piston, by directing the fuel injection direction of a fuel injection valve to the top surface of the piston, forming a diffusion table erected from the top surface of the piston, and forming a guide surface on the diffusion table. CONSTITUTION: The center line L of fuel spray to be injected from a fuel injection valve 3 is so arranged as to be inclined in relation to a top surface 11 of a piston 1 by the specified angleθ0 . A diffusion table 12 erected from the top surface 11 on the fuel spray center line L is integrally formed on the piston 1. The diffusion table 12 is provided with a guide surface 13 with which fuel spray to be injected from the fuel injection valve 3 collides. The guide surface 13 is formed into a flat shape so as to be inclined along the fuel spray center line L. That is, the angleθ1 at which the guide surface 13 is inclined in relation to the fuel spray center line L is formed smaller than the angleθ0 at which the piston top surface 11 is inclined in relation to the fuel spray center line. Therefore, mixing of fuel to collide with the piston and air is promoted, and generation of smoke can be restrained.
