Rotational microtome with crank drive

The microtome (1) has an object carriage (4) reciprocated in a vertical path via a crank drive, with the moving mass balanced by a counter-weight device (6) with a variable spring element (7) and a pivoted lever (8), allowing balancing of different moving masses. The pivoted lever is coupled to the object carriage via a tension device (9) coupled to the opposite end of the lever to the spring element. Pref. the tension device is provided by a cog belt passed around a deflection roller before securing it to the object carriage.
