The machine has a tool (1) held in a mount (5) in the housing (2) with the freedom to pivot up to a predetermined angle (alpha) in all directions. The tools is linked to a motor drive (3) by means of a ball (7) and socket (8) forming a knuckle joint (6). A bearing (11) pref. roller in the ball allows the tool to be rotated about its longitudinal axis (4) by the motor. The knuckle joint allows the tool to pivot so that it is always in contact with the surface to be abraded.
