PURPOSE: To obtain a high-purity ferrite single crystal by forming the part of a melted ferrite material and the part where ferrite is crystallized into the single crystal in a crucible and cooling the melt part to grow the single crystal. CONSTITUTION: A ferrite material such as an Mn-Zn ferrite is melted in a platinum crucible 4 heated to 1600-1700 deg.C by a heating furnace. A refrigerant such as gaseous N2 is passed through a cooling pipe 1 provided in the crucible 4 to form a solid-phase part 8 on a melt part 9, any volatilized platinum particle 6 brought into contact with the solid-phase part is adsorbed and collected to prevent the particle from being mixed into the melt part 9, and a platinum particle 7 eluted into the melt part 9 due to the convection in the melt part 9 is adsorbed, collected by the solid-phase part 8 and removed from the melt part 9. The crucible 4 is then gradually separated from the heating furnace to grow a crystal from a crystallization part 10, the cooling pipe 1 and crucible 4 are simultaneously moved at the same speed, a single crystal is grown while keeping the solid-phase part 8 at the upper end of the melt part 9, and a high- purity ferrite single crystal is obtained. |
