Filter material at least comprising a nonwoven batt which serves as a support and disposed on which is another nonwoven batt fabricated in accordance with a melt- blowing process, characterized in that the batt (web) which serves as a support is a spunbonded web which largely or entirely consists of bicomponent filaments or fibres and has an open structure. The filter material has greater air permeability in conjunction with a stiffness greater than or equal to that of existing filter materials.
