The data acquisition method adds a module which delivers its output to the keyboard connector of the computer, and has inputs connectors for all other inputs to the computer, including the keyboard. The module incorporates a microcontroller that passes all incoming data through a correspondence table (10). Table data has been previously stored in the microcontroller memory. The application of the table causes any incoming data to be translated to the format of keyboard output, so all incoming data appears to the computer to be keyboard-entered data. Part of the interface provides receiving and decoding for data transmitted on infra-red carriers. Provision is made to remotely load data to the memory to allow operation with different input data signals.
