Single-phase salient pole reluctance motor with light barrier commutation e.g. for driving pump or centrifuge

A two pole reluctance motor with salient poles on the stator and the permanent magnet rotor has a single phase stator winding with a freewheeling diode and a resistance in a parallel branch. In series with the stator winding is a MOSFET to control the current, receiving trigger signals from a light barrier working with a control disc on the motor shaft. The stator pole arc lies between 70 and 110 deg and the rotor pole arc lies between 30 and 50 deg. The angle between polar axes when the stator current switches on is between 90 and 110 deg and is between 30 and 45 deg when it switches off. The freewheeling resistance value depends on the speed at rated load and/or the effective stator resistance.
