Organic vapor distinguishing apparatus

An organic gas distinguishing apparatus for reliably distinguishing different kinds of organic gas is disclosed. The apparatus comprises m sensor members which are arranged along a fuel vapor passage and each of which exhibits inherent reflective characteristics when in contact with different m kinds of organic gas, wherein m is an integer of 2 or more. Light source members are provided for each of the m sensor members for irradiating a corresponding one of the sensor members. Detecting members are provided for each of the sensor members for receiving light emitted from a corresponding one of the m light source members and reflected from the corresponding one of the sensor members so as to output a signal representing the intensity of the received light. The organic gases can be distinguished on the basis of the signs of the obtained differences by comparing the differences in magnitude between signals obtained from respective m kinds of organic gas by the detecting members.
