PURPOSE: To obtain a proper heat-tape contact condition constantly by causing a deformation of a head mounting member for linking a head and a drum rotating part by a centrifugal force generated with the rotation of a drum to change a protrusion value of the head with the deformation thereof. CONSTITUTION: A tape is supported by a lower drum 2 fixed at a mechanical chassis part and an upper drum 1 with the diameter thereof almost the same as the lower drum 2 and one head 3 or more carried within the drums 1 and 2 are mounted on rotating parts of the drums 1 and 2 through head mounting members 4 and 5. With the rotation of the rotating parts, the heads 3 are moving at a relative speed to the tape to record or reproduce on the tape. During the recording or reproduction, the head mounting members 4 and 5 for linking the heads 3 and the drum rotating parts are deformed by a centrifugal force generated with the rotation of the drums 1 and 2 and a protrusion value of each head 3 is changed by the deformation. A relationship ofδ1<δ2 is established between the protrusion valueδ1 of the head at a low speed and the protrusion valueδ2 at a high speed.
