The actions of personnel using commercial motor vehicles is recorded by an on-board computer. The computer is housed in a metal box (1) to provide screening from adjacent radios. A back- lit display panel shows data and keyboard entries made by the driver. Eight keys (3) with associated indicator lights (4) are arranged on the front of the metal box, beneath the display panel. The unit is supplied from the vehicle electrical system, and has an internal back-up battery. An input is provided for a connection to the distance travelled transducer. An RS 232 serial port is provided to allow extraction of recorded data from the unit. An external computer can be connected to the serial port, and data transferred between the unit and the external computer.
