PURPOSE: To form bird's-eye view data and plane map data by using a common map data base. CONSTITUTION: A control circuit 3 executes the setting of a screen display mode and display environment after setting the destination and recommended route of a vehicle. Next, the circuit executes display of a base screen. At this time, the road map data read from a map memory 2 is stored in memory 6 for bird's-eye view data and thereafter, the data is subjected to conversion to bird's-eye view data, which is then stored in an image memory 7 in the case where a bird's-eye view is displayed on the base screen. On the other hand, the road map data read from the map memory 2 is stored into the memory 5 for plane map data and is then transferred to the image memory 7 in the case where the plane map is displayed on the base screen. The road map data necessary for the display is also once stored in the memory 6 for bird's-eye view data or the memory 5 for plane map data even in the case where the bird's-eye view or the plane map is displayed on the window screen. |
