The shape and alignment of the suction gripper (3) is variable to fit different objects (G) to be gripped. The gripper comprises an elongated adaptor element (4), extending in a longitudinal gripping direction. The adaptor element is movable by vacuum application to change its width or its length in a coupling section to a nozzle wall, or a second adaptor element.Typically the adapting of the gripper to various objects is carried out by the change in the suction performance, or the suction air flow velocity.
