Protection device for an expansion joint in civil engineering works

The guard consists of a series of rigid protection elements (9) which overlap the expansion joint, and a deformable lateral filler (15) between the lateral edge of the protection elements and the adjacent edge of the main decking (14). The ends of the protection elements are made so that they overlap with those of the adjoining section, and prefabricated chambers to receive a filling material (11) made from poured asphalt or prefabricated concrete. At X- or T- joints the chambers are shaped so that they come to a point and fit together with the tips of other chambers.
