PURPOSE: To obtain the subject compound useful as an electron donating compound in a magnesium chloride carrying-type Ziegler-Natta catalyst for the synthesis ofα-olefins. CONSTITUTION: This new organosilicon compound comprises 2-methyl-2- trimethoxysilyladamantane of the formula. The compound of the formula is obtained e.g. by reacting tetrachlorosilane with a 2-methy1-2-admantylmagnesium halide as a 2-methyl-2-adamantyl Grignard reagent or 2-methyl-2-adamantyl lithium as an organolithium reagent, removing the produced magnesium or lithium salt by filtration, removing a solvent by distillation and then reacting the resultant mixture with methanol in the presence of a reagent for removing a halogenated hydrogen.
